The Re-Brand

Throughout all my years as a creative, I’ve been plagued by indecision and constant wandering interests. The thing is, I like a LOT of stuff- and that makes focusing on one trade nearly impossible. I like photography, but I also like design. …and computers, and video games, and pop culture, and video, etcetera, etcetera, you get the point.

But despite all that, I have made attempts at narrowing the field a bit. I created a photography business, and also a separate game/design brand for some of my more fringe interests. They’ve been met with varying levels of success for a number of reasons; the greater of which include conflicting direction, a lack of time, and a total lack of marketing. And while those challenges might seem like enough of a hurdle to overcome, it’s clear that my constraints are only getting bigger as certain life events become more and more a priority.

Don’t get me wrong though. I ain’t quitting.

I am determined to take this more serious than ever, and as a result, will be re-branding myself this month. Although I am keeping the themartinvasquez brand, I am redefining it using elements from my photography work and Deus Ex Otaku design work. Furthermore, I am placing more of an emphasis on myself as a personal brand, rather than specific businesses with defined sets of products. Going forward, I am focusing simply on digital image creation, revolving around a theme of surrealism, fantasy, and exotic locales. That will definitely continue to include photography, but also digital design, illustration, and any other form visual art that I can express myself with.

Personally, I think this is the best approach, all things considered. The open scope allows me to create a range of things I’m passionate about, while also marketing to a specific niche market. Additionally, putting it all into a single brand means that I can post consistently, while still having time to do the back-end work like marketing and planning. I think it’s a good strategy, and like I said, I’m determined to take this seriously.

I’ve scheduled out the next six months, and there’s a lot to do. I won’t dive too much into details, but I will say that there’s a lot coming up that I’m really excited about. January will be mostly about getting things off the ground, and the following 5 months will be dedicated to growth and community building.

If you’ve followed me in the past, thank you. I hope you will continue to enjoy the images I create. If you’re new to my work, please let me know what you think. I genuinely want to develop a solid rapport with an audience of similar interest. I’m on Twitter @therealvasquez, and on Instagram @themartinvasquez.
